SEPTEMBER 2005 LOUISIANA PASSENGER PLATE.
The statewide issuance of the new "brown pelican" plate coincided with Hurricane Katrina. It was intended as a statewide standard, to replace all previous plates still on the road. In that regard it was not totally successful, as older plates are still seen from time to time, although not as commonly as in the past. This one has the two year sticker that would have expired in 2007.
The previous "lipstick" series had run through the alphabet from AAA into the mid N prefixes. No initial letters were skipped. The series continued with three special plates, skipping initial letters Q and U. The end of the alphabet was reached in late 2015, and since then a reverse format 000-AAA has been in use, now in the C series in mid 2018.
